Discovering the Magic: Alec Bradley Magic Toast

It’s not often that a casual stop on a drive back from a northern adventure leads to a cigar experience that impresses profoundly. That was exactly my experience when I stumbled upon Casa del Humidor after a memorable weekend in Northern Ontario. The recommendation from the knowledgeable folks there. The Alec Bradley Magic Toast Cigar—a suggestion that would linger in my humidor until its recent, unforgettable lighting.

Unwrapping the Magic

The Magic Toast cigar is beautifully crafted with a Honduran cover leaf, a double binder from Nicaragua and Honduras, and fillers also sourced from these rich tobacco regions. I opted for the Robusto size, which presented a notably oily appearance, prominent veins, and tight seams topped with a well-applied cap. It felt extremely firm, hinting at a densely packed interior.

Before lighting, the cigar exuded aromas reminiscent of a bakery in the early morning—notes of light mocha, malt, and cedar wafting through, setting the stage for the experience ahead. A neat V-cut later, and the pre-draw was invitingly perfect.

Flavor Journey

Upon lighting, the Magic Toast burst onto the scene with a flavour profile rich in toasted cereal notes and a dried fruit undertone, reminiscent of figs or cherries. The introduction of a robust black coffee flavour seemed to echo the routine of a busy workday—cup after cup. The smoke was plentiful and the construction impeccable, with an even burn throughout.

Despite its sturdy packing, which made it a slow burner, the Robusto size was a perfect choice for this session. Initially, I expected a peppery kick, often associated with this cigar, but it was surprisingly subdued, possibly mellowed by the aging process in my humidor.

Rich and Robust

As I progressed, the cigar continued to impress with its complexity. The interplay of coffee with subtle sweetness made each puff a rich experience. I allowed the cigar brief rest between draws, pairing it with sips of water to cleanse the palate, which only enhanced the flavours further.

Concluding Thoughts

By the final third, the blend maintained its initial promises with notes that conjured images of toasted baked goods and a continuation of the coffee, malt, and cedar profile. This transitioned into a deep, satisfying earthiness that made this blend a standout.

Final Verdict

The Alec Bradley Magic Toast is not just any cigar; it's a testament to expert blending and quality craftsmanship. While not priced as a premium cigar, it delivers a premium experience, making it an exceptional value. It has earned a permanent spot in my rotation and is a strong recommendation for anyone looking to explore one of Alec Bradley's finest. Overall, I rate it a solid 9/10. This cigar isn't just enjoyable—it's now one of my all-time favourites.
